Morgan O’Connor is the Director of Environmental Affairs at Xanterra Parks & Resorts for the Grand Canyon Railway (GCR) and Petrified Forest. In his three and a half years at Xanterra, he has developed, implemented, and maintained environmental strategies and programs aimed at reducing Xanterra’s carbon footprint. Specifically, he has led initiatives related to solid waste management, energy and water efficiency of operational systems, pollution prevention, waste reduction, sustainable design and construction practices, hazardous materials management, air emissions, NPDES permitting and control, environmental communication and education, comprehensive affirmative procurement strategies, and fuel dispensing and storage management—initiatives that have resulted in substantial energy and cost savings. The overall improvement in the company’s environmental program was significant enough to earn the industry’s highest recognition—ISO 14001 certification. The GCR is also the proud recipient of the 2011 NPS Environmental Achievement Award as well as the 2011 DOI Environmental Achievement Award.
Additionally, Morgan is OSHA HAZWOPPER certified, RCRA certified, and DOT Hazardous Materials certified.
