On June 1, eight regional teachers were recognized by SEDI and awarded $1,000 for their creation of curriculum that helps children learn sustainability.
Ruth Donnelly, Jodie Bucci, Jini Maxwell and Bethany Walker teach “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” through activity and field trips in Kindergarten at Cromer Elementary.
At Puente de Hozho fifth grade, Craig Bowie has his students teaching students in different grade levels how to recycle in everything from art-work to lab-work.
Flagstaff Junior Academy’s Britton Shepardson and Amy Larson developed a “local-vores” curriculum, buying and eating things made locally. Students use GIS technology to track point of original of consumables and calculate energy and environmental costs in transporting materials.
