The 2014 SEDI Teacher Awards for Sustainability Curriculum (TASC) will be granted to teachers or groups of teachers, pre-K through 12, for the development and implementation of lessons, units or projects that reflect and reinforce the principles of sustainability for the 21st century. The contest period is the 2013/2014 school year.Up to four prizes of $2,500 each will be awarded.
The awards will be given out in a special event also recognizing the Coconino County Teacher of the Year and the STEM Teacher of the Year. For more information about the event and the Coconino County Teacher of the Year award please see http://ccesa.az.gov/resources-for-schools/
Note that this is not a grant. It is an award, a recognition with no strings attached.
Applications will be evaluated within the following groups:
- grades pre-K through 2
- grades 3 through 5
- grades 6 through 8
- grades 9 through 12
Awards will be given at a special program on May 1, 2014 at the High Country Conference Center.

- The purpose of this award is to encourage and recognize development and implementation of innovative educational approaches in all disciplines (e.g. math, English, history, sciences, economics, etc.) that instill in students the importance, value and practicality of local environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability.
- All classroom teachers in Coconino County, Winslow, and Verde Valley are eligible.
- The lesson, unit or project must have a clear connection to the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability as reflected by the general goals of SEDI (see Meet SEDI). The award will be based on innovative approaches, actions taken, practical applications, and sustainable outcomes. The innovative educational approach will demonstrate practical application that empowers action at the local level. The project must be aligned with the AZ Dept. of Education Standards (see http://www.azed.gov/standards-practices/).
